Thomas William Moermond was born on July 12, 1941 in Spencer, Iowa to M. William (Doc) Moermond and Berdeva H. Wehler Moermond. There to welcome Tom home was brother, Ronald. Tom graduated from Everly High School May 1959. He attended the University of South Dakota from 1959-1961. Tom was a member of the Air Guard from 1961-1968 and then transferred to the Air Force from 1968-1969.
Tom’s career took him from data processing to becoming a police officer. He was a Deputy Sheriff with Jefferson County, Colorado Sheriff’s department from 1973-1975 and then moved back to Iowa and became a deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s department for a year. Tom returned to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s department and remained there until his retirement in 1995. While he was with Jefferson County, Tom enjoyed being a member of the department softball team. Upon his retirement Tom became an Adams County Colorado assistant county coroner from 1995-1997.
Tom was a member of Legion Post #161 based in Arvada. Tom was also a member of the All Honor Guard for 20+ years and participated in over 6,000 hours of veteran services at Fort Logan, Colorado.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his brother Ron (Kathy), Cousin Dan (Val) Moermond, and his special friend, Ralph Meyer as well as many other friends and relatives.
Committal Services will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on March 21, 2025, at 12:30 pm. If you wish to attend please meet at Staging Area B.
A memorial luncheon will be served after the services at Arvada Post 121 — 6230 W 60th Ave, Arvada, CO 80003.
