Titans fall to Indians in Ruthven

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys basketball team fell behind Friday and never clawed its way back into a 70-52 loss to Pocahontas Area in Ruthven.
The Indians jumped out to a 21-12 lead after one quarter of play and led 35-21 at the half.
The two squads played it close through the second half, but the Indians outscored the Titans 15-14 in the third and 20-17 in the fourth to salt away the 18-point win.

Boji Mammoths drop 2 to Oahe

The Boji Mammoths hockey team dropped a pair of home matches over the weekend to Oahe (South Dakota). The Mammoths fell 3-1 on Saturday and 7-4 on Sunday.
In Saturday's contest, Oahe got out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal at the 9:23 mark of the opening period.
Boji answered at the 13:43 mark of the first period, as Marcus Ingrham scored an even strength goal, but Oahe tacked on goals in the second and third periods to pull ahead for the win.

Pioneers fall to Boyden-Hull

The Okoboji boys basketball team dropped a home contest with Boyden-Hull on Tuesday, Jan. 17, as the Pioneers fell 79-51 to the Comets.

Titans split with East Sac County

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls and boys basketball teams split a Twin Lakes Conference road doubleheader with East Sac County on Saturday, as the girls won 48-38 and the boys fell 63-43 to the Raiders.
The GT/RA girls opened to a 12-6 lead after one quarter of play and led 27-18 at the half after outscoring the Raiders 15-12 in the second quarter.

Pioneers place 4th at Nighthawk Invite

The Okoboji wrestling team placed fourth at the Nighthawks Invitational hosted by Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Saturday, as the Pioneers had five wrestlers place in the top three and three earn runner-up finishes on the day.
Cain Hansen, Sean Griener and Blake Abrahamson each placed second in their respective weight classes, while Hunter Abrahamson and Matt Eckard battled back to place third in theirs.

Indians hold off Sioux City West for win

The Spirit Lake girls basketball team took an early lead and fended off a late surge by Sioux City West on Saturday to earn a 55-41 win in front of the Indians' home crowd.
Spirit Lake jumped out to a 12-5 lead after one quarter of play and stretched that lead to 33-17 at the break with a 21-12 score in the second quarter.

Spirit Lake tops Pocahontas Area in overtime

The ninth-ranked (3A) Spirit Lake boys basketball team picked up a 74-70 overtime win over unranked Pocahontas Area on Saturday night to improve to 9-2 overall on the year.
Spirit Lake, coming off of back-to-back Lakes Conference losses to Le Mars and Storm Lake, held Pocahontas to just three points in overtime to pull away for the four-point victory.

Indians split conference doubleheader with Tornadoes

The Spirit Lake girls and boys basketball teams split a Lakes Conference road doubleheader on Friday night, as the girls won convincingly over the Tornadoes and the ninth-ranked boys suffered their second straight, and second overall, loss of the season.
The girls defeated the Tornadoes 70-43 while the Spirit Lake boys fell 70-64.

Pioneers knock off 11th-ranked West Lyon in OT

The Okoboji girls basketball team survived a late rally by 11th-ranked West Lyon on Friday that forced overtime, as Pioneers frosh Camry Jones scored the go-ahead bucket in overtime to give her team a 66-65 win.

Titans go 2-1 at Lake View quad

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestling team went 2-1 at a quadrangular hosted by East Sac County on Thursday, as the Titans defeated the host Raiders 72-9 and Alta-Aurelia 57-15, but fell to Kuemper Catholic 42-33.
Against East Sac County, the Titans picked up wins from Lucas Hoffman, Kolton Roth, Spencer Roth, Carter Murray, Blake Miller, Cade Steelman, Nate Harris, Hunter Naig and Keeven Long.

Pioneers go 1-1 at Sheldon

The Okoboji wrestling team went split a pair of duals Thursday at Sheldon, as the Pioneers defeated Sheldon/South O'Brien 40-39 and fell to third-ranked Sibley-Ocheyedan 57-21.
Against the Orabs, Okoboji picked up wins from Hunter Abrahamson, Dominick Titus, Isiah Huey, Luke Bossard and Riley Anderosn.

Pioneers split with E-Hawks

In a game that was delayed for two days due to weather, Okoboji and Emmetsburg split a non-conference doubleheader hosted by the E-Hawks on Thursday, as the Pioneers won the girls matchup and the E-Hawks won the boys contest in overtime.
In the girls half of the doubleheader, the Pioneers topped Emmetsburg 44-42.
Camry Jones led the way with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while fellow frosh Kallyn Stumbo had 14 pounds, four rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Jeremy Barnes, 28, of Spirit Lake was charged with shoplifting at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 2200 17th Street in Spirit Lake.
Derrick Matthew Miner, 26, of Estherville was charged with driving while license suspended, speeding and failure to have insurance at 3:42 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the corner of 36th treat and Hill Avenue in Spirit Lake.

Buena Vista University (BVU) is launching a master of arts in organizational leadership degree. The degree will be available fully online with classes beginning March 6 and new opportunities to start the program approximately every eight weeks.

Michael John Brandt, 54, of Spirit Lake was charged with driving while license under suspension and operation without a registration card on Dec. 13 at the corner of Highway 9 and Lake Street in Spirit Lake.
Darlene Fowler, 58, of Spirit Lake was charged with driving under the influence, open container and improper rear lamp on Dec. 19 at the corner of 22nd Street and Zenith Avenue in Spirit Lake.
