Titans trounce Wolverines

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls basketball team was dominant Friday evening, holding host West Bend-Mallard to just 14 points in a 61-14 Twin Lakes Conference beat-down.
The Titans held the Wolverines scoreless through the first quarter of play while taking a 15-0 lead. West Bend-Mallard had its best quarter of the night in the second stanza, putting up eight points, but the Titans caught fire, scoring 26 to take a commanding 41-8 lead at the break.

100 WINS

Okoboji senior Colbin LaRue reached the 100-win mark for his career on senior night in Milford on Thursday. Fittingly, LaRue earned his 100th win by fall, as he pinned MOC-Floyd Valley's Mason Vaas in 1 minute, 5 seconds of their 145-pound bout. "(It's) an incredible accomplishment," Okoboji coach Nate Dau said of LaRue's 100th win.

Third-quarter slump dooms Wolves at Hartley

Trailing by nine at the half, Harris-Lake Park needed to get out to a good start in the third quarter of Friday's War Eagle Conference girls hoops showdown with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
Unfortunately, the Wolves struggled from the field out of the break, as the Hawks outscored the visitors 22-9 to pull away for a 67-48 win.

Area wrestlers compete at Herb Irgens Invite

**Spirit Lake Park places fourth behind Rieck, Powell
All three Dickinson County wrestling teams made the trek to Ida Grove over the weekend to compete at the always tough Herb Irgens Invitational, and each finished in or near the top half of the 26-team tourney hosted by OA-BCIG.
Spirit Lake Park, ranked eighth in Class 2A, led the way with a fourth-place finish behind a pair of individual champions in sophomores Kyler Rieck and Dakoda Powell.

Halftime lead slips away as Pioneers fall to Warriors

Okoboji held a five-point lead at the half, but couldn't hold on for a Siouxland Conference win Friday night, as the Pioneers fell on the road to Sioux Center 86-78.
The Pioneers trailed 25-20 after one quarter of play, but bounced back with a 24-14 score in the second quarter to take a 44-39 lead into the break.

Titans come from behind to top Warriors

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls basketball team exploded for 29 fourth-quarter points Thursday night to earn a 58-56 come-from-behind victory over Alta-Aurelia in Ruthven.
The Titans and Warriors were locked at 13-13 after one quarter of play before Alta-Aurelia ended the half on a 10-6 run to lead 23-19 at the break.

Fab freshmen lead Pioneers to win

The Okoboji girls basketball team got out to a hot start in a Siouxland Conference home rout of Boyden-Hull on Tuesday, Jan. 17, as the Pioneers defeated the Comets 59-30 in Milford.
Fab freshmen Magan Christopherson, Camry Jones and Kallyn Stumbo combined for 45 points in the victory.

Mammoths drop two over the weekend

The Boji Mammoths dropped two more contests over the weekend to fall to 3-10-1 overall on the season, as they lost 8-4 on a road trip against Yankton on Saturday and 8-0 to Fremont at home on Sunday.
Against Yankton, the Mammoths got out to an early lead as Max Carlson put one in the back of the net off of an assist by Marcus Ingraham to put his squad up 1-0 in the first period.
However, Yankton responded with a pair of goals to close the opening stanza up 2-1.

Softball clinics are approaching

The Iowa Lakes softball team will hold an advanced clinic on Saturday, Feb. 4 and a youth clinic on Sunday, Feb. 5.
The advanced clinic is open to grades 7-12 and is split up into three sessions. The cost is $40 for each session.

Okoboji resident David Thoreson loves to sail.

That combination of skills has led to the release of his second book, "Over the Horizon: Exploring the Edges of a Changing Planet."

Food Pantry benefit launches Winter Games

Jason Grinnen has a mission in mind. He wants the residents and visitors to help the local food pantry shore up to meet its huge demand.
"The UDMO Food Pantry services over 1,800 families and over 3,600 individuals so you can see the need for this benefit," Grinnen said.
The local realtor and musician sees this as a critical time for the food pantry.

Lake Park man receives new trial date

A Lake Park man accused of committing armed robbery at a rural Clay County restaurant will see a delay in the court process.
Joshua Mandelkow is now scheduled to stand trial at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday April 4. He faces charges of first-degree robbery, going armed with intent and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

Titans fall to Indians in Ruthven

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys basketball team fell behind Friday and never clawed its way back into a 70-52 loss to Pocahontas Area in Ruthven.
The Indians jumped out to a 21-12 lead after one quarter of play and led 35-21 at the half.
The two squads played it close through the second half, but the Indians outscored the Titans 15-14 in the third and 20-17 in the fourth to salt away the 18-point win.
