MMLL to hold craft party

The Milford Memorial Library will hold a craft party after school on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the library. Students in preschool through fourth grade are invited to attend. The library will provide all craft supplies at no charge. The library has also changed public story time to 11 a.m. Friday. Preschool children are invited to come for stories and simple crafts. Presbyterian women to hold luncheon

The Presbyterian women of Spirit Lake invite the women from area churches to attend their Christmas luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. First Presbyterian Church is located at 3501 Hill Avenue in Spirit Lake. A free-will offering will be taken. Guest speaker Michelle Christy will present a presentation titled "Gods Favor for Life's Assignments."

Pest control course offered

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dickinson County office will host a Pest Control Operators Continuing Instruction Course (CIC) for commercial pesticide applicators Wednesday, Dec. 7. The registration fee is $60 on or before Nov. 30 and $70 after Nov. 30.
The program is offered at office locations across Iowa through the ISU Extension and Outreach Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP).

Austads celebrate 50 years together

The family of Verdon and Joy Austad will help the couple celebrate their 50th anniversary from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Fostoria United Methodist Church. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend and help celebrate.

Busy season at Discovery House

Twelve residents, guests and family members were served during our Thanksgiving feast at Discovery House. We would like to thank each person who contributed to our gathering. We are still eating delicious pies and leftovers!

Nicholas Odin Burge, 36, of Spirit Lake, was charged with driving while license is suspended and failure to provide proof of insurance at 9:04 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at 20th Street and Chicago Avenue in Spirit Lake.
Teri Kay Stevenson, 46, of Spencer, was charged with shoplifting and drug/narcotics violations at 7:06 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 2201 Highway 71 South in Spirit Lake.

Chamber visits Jimmy John's

The Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce welcomed Jimmy John's to the city with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday. The sandwich shop opened on Oct. 4 and is located at 1007 18th Street in Spirit Lake. Fair board memebers hold annual meeting

The Dickinson County Fair Board held its annual meeting Monday, Dec. 5 at the fairgrounds in Spirit Lake. Three board members retired including (from left) Jon Gunderson of Lake Park who served 24 years; Tom Underwood of Spirit Lake, who served 12 years and Roland Taylor of Terril who served six years. Elected to the board for a three-year term were incumbent Susan Reiser and new members Spenser Taylor, Amanda Smith, Kayleen Jackson and Tim Gunderson.

A funeral service for Sean D. Enfield, 50, of Arnolds Park, was held Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
Sean David Enfield, the son of Dannie and Jane Enfield, was born May 2, 1966 in Pratt, Kansas. He graduated from Storm Lake High School and later attended WIT College in Sioux City.
