The Spirit Lake girls and boys basketball teams picked up a pair of Lakes Conference home wins Monday night, as the Indians swept Estherville Lincoln Central. The girls edged the Midgets 44-41 and the boys won big, 52-26.
In the girls contest, the Indians led 10-7 after one quarter of play and 18-14 at the break. The two squad played to a 12-12 tie in the third quarter before the Indians held of an ELC run in the final stanza to hang on for the three-point victory.

Despite not being at full strength, the Okoboji wrestling team earned a fourth-place finish Friday at the Siouxland Conference tournament at Sioux Center.
The Pioneers put just nine wrestlers on the mat Friday night, but each produced the necessary results, according to catch Nate Dau.

With 27 points in the second quarter Friday night, the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshrie girls basketball team exploded out to a commanding lead in a 21-point blowout of Southeast Valley.
Behind a trio of double-digit scoring efforts and a determined defense, the Titans topped the Jaguars 62-41 in Graettinger.
Emma Heinrichs, Taylor Park and Toni Alesch led the GT/RA offense.
Heinrichs finished with 13 points, while Park had 13 and Alesch had 10.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire struggled to start both halves Friday night and paid the price with a 67-58 Twin Lakes Conference loss to Southeast Valley in Graettinger.
The Titans were outscored by a combined score of 35-17 in the first and third quarters in the loss.
GT/RA fell behind 15-8 after one quarter of play, but bounced back in the second, outscoring the Jaguars 15-9 to make it a one-point Southeast Valley lead at the break.

The Harris-Lake Park girls and boys basketball teams split a War Eagle Conference home doubleheader with Clay Central-Everly over the weekend. The girls fell 55-38 to the Mavericks and the boys won 82-52 Saturday in Lake Park.
In the girls contest, both teams struggled offensively in the opening stanza, as CC-E led 6-5 after one quarter of play.

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys basketball team presented coach Randy Hough an autographed basketball with all the team member signatures and a 400th win poster this past Friday night at their home game. Hough recently became one of 86 coaches in the state to eclipse 400 wins for their career. Hough has been a head coach since 1974. He played basketball for Mallard and graduated from Mallard High School in 1966.

Led by a trio of first-place finishes, the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestling team places second overall at the Lynn Moody Invitational on Saturday.
Kolton Roth, Beau Schany and Nate Harris each earned individual championships at the tournament.
Roth, ranked third in Class 1A, went 2-0 to place first in the 138-pound bracket.

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls and boys basketball teams earned a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday. The Titans took on Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union on the road and the girls came away with a 55-25 win while the GT/RA boys won 50-41.
In the girls contest, the Titans led 11-6 after one quarter of play and stretched their lead to double digits with a 21-10 score in the second.

The Milford Knights of Columbus Council 7284 hosted a free throw championship at the Okoboji Middle School on Jan. 22.
Boys and girls ages 9-14 participated and 10 earned the right to compete in the district competition at 1 p.m., Feb. 5, in Spirit Lake.

The Okoboji girls and boys basketball teams split a Siouxland Conference road doubleheader with Rock Valley on Friday. The girls won 67-56 and the boys lost 72-58.
In the girls contest, Okoboji fell behind 8-0 early on before settling down and connecting on a 19-6 run to take a 19-14 lead late in the quarter. Central Lyon's Alexis Mousel hit a three-quarter-court shot to make it a 19-17 Okoboji lead heading into the second frame.

The Harris-Lake Park girls and boys basketball teams split a War Eagle Conference road doubleheader on Friday night with Akron-Westfield. While the H-LP girls fell to the Westerners 58-33, the boys earned a five-point victory, topping their hosts 64-59.

The Spirit Lake girls and boys basketball teams picked up a conference road sweep over Emmetsburg on Thursday.
In the Lakes Conference doubleheader, the Spirit Lake girls topped the E-Hawks 42-33 and the sixth-ranked boys won 61-41.
In the girls contest, Spirit Lake trailed 10-8 after one quarter of play, but outscored the E-Hawks 20-14 in the second quarter to take a 28-24 lead into the break.

The Okoboji girls basketball team ground out a 10-point victory Thursday night in a defensive battle with Central Lyon.
According to Okoboji coach John Adams, both teams looked rusty on offense after a two-day break from practice due to a winter storm that hit the area.

The Boji Mammoths hockey team extended their losing streak to eight games with a pair of losses to Rushmore on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29 at the Rushmore Thunderdome in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Mammoths fell 5-3 on Saturday and 13-5 on Sunday to fall to 3-12-1 overall on the season.
In Saturday's contest, the Mammoths surrendered three straight goals to fall behind 3-0 in the opening period before a Skyler Ingraham goal made it 3-1 after one.

Spirit Lake's Hazkhett Zeledon recently signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Zeledon is a three-year starter for the Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji girls soccer team earning All-Lakes Conference honors each year. This past season, she started all 14 games for the Indians, leading her squad to a 6-8 overall record.
