Wolves come up short in loss to Tigers

 

Harris-Lake Park held a late lead over Trinity Christian on Monday, Jan. 16, but the Wolves were unable to come away with a War Eagle Conference home victory. The Tigers outscored the Wolves 13-6 in the final frame of a 49-42 Trinity Christian victory in Lake Park.

Top-ranked Midgets pull away in win over Indians

 

Spirit Lake’s girls basketball team hung with returning state champion, top-ranked and unbeaten Estherville Lincoln Central for a half, but the Midgets had too much firepower in a Lakes Conference rivalry win over the Indians on Friday, Jan. 13. The Midgets defeated the Indians 61-42 in Estherville.

Spirit Lake Park girls wrestlers place 9th at Emmetsburg

 

Spirit Lake Park’s girls wrestling team placed ninth at the 2023 E-Hawk Lady Invite held Monday, Jan. 16 in Emmetsburg.

Cassie McKeen led the Indians, winning the 105-pound bracket with a 2-0 record. Audrina Bennet and Jaimee Hazelett each placed second. Aroura Preston and Joley Schmahl both placed third.

Okoboji/HMS girls wrestlers compete at Emmetsburg

The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team competed at the 2023 E-Hawk Lady Invite held Monday, Jan. 16 in Emmetsburg. The Pioneers had two wrestlers place second and seven wrestlers place in the top four on the day.

Angelina Anguiano and Dulce Ortega both earned runner-up finishes for the Pioneers.

Harris-Lake Park boys drop home game to Jays

 

Harris-Lake Park’s boys basketball team took an early lead but couldn’t match Gehlen Catholic over the final three quarters of a War Eagle Conference contest held Saturday, Jan. 14.  The Jays topped the Wolves 63-42 in Lake Park.

Harris-Lake Park girls fall short in loss to Jays

 

Harris-Lake Park’s girls basketball team took an early lead — and made a third-quarter comeback — in a War Eagle Conference battle with Gehlen Catholic on Saturday, Jan. 14, but the Wolves couldn’t put the Jays away for good. Gehlen Catholic topped the Wolves 52-49 in Lake Park.

Spirit Lake Park wrestlers compete at Le Mars Invite

 

Spirit Lake Park’s boys and girls wrestling teams traveled south to Le Mars over the weekend to compete at the 2023 Le Mars Invitational. The Spirit Lake Park girls placed seven overall and had one champion and a runner-up on the day. The boys placed 16th overall and had two top-five finishers.

Boji boys drop conference game to No. 1 Lions

 

Okoboji’s boys basketball team fell to top-ranked and undefeated Central Lyon on Friday, Jan. 13. The Lions topped the Pioneers 95-49 in Rock Rapids. It was Okoboji’s fourth consecutive loss, and seventh loss by 30 points or more this season.

Pioneers drop road game to No. 2 Central Lyon

 

Okoboji’s girls basketball team fell behind early in a lopsided road loss to second-ranked (2A) Central Lyon on Friday, Jan. 13. The Lions topped the Pioneers 69-39 in Rock Rapids.

Wolves drop home game to No. 5 Remsen St. Mary’s

 

Harris-Lake Park’s boys basketball team held a narrow halftime lead, but the Wolves couldn’t put the fifth-ranked (1A) Remsen St. Mary’s Hawks away for good in a War Eagle Conference home loss on Friday, Jan. 13. The Hawks topped the Wolves 46-35 in Lake Park.

Harris-Lake Park girls hoopers fall to No. 4 Hawks

 

Harris-Lake Park’s girls basketball team could not match fourth-ranked (1A) Remsen St. Mary’s in a War Eagle Conference clash played Friday, Jan. 13. The Hawks defeated the Wolves 79-41 in Lake Park.

Okoboji/HMS wrestlers top Orabs, Generals

 

The Okoboji/HMS wrestling team went 2-0 at a triangular hosted by Sheldon/South O’Brien on Thursday, Jan. 12. The Pioneers earned a 38-35 win over Sheldon/South O’Brien and a 66-12 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan in Sheldon.

In their victory over the Generals, the Pioneers seven of nine contested matches.

Indians earn 20-point victory over Rockets

 

Spirit Lake’s boys basketball team came out firing in a 20-point non-conference home victory over Rock Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The Indians topped the Rockets 77-57 in Spirit Lake.

“Rock Valley was probably the best we have played to date,” Spirit Lake coach Paul Brown said. “We came out firing in the first quarter, and it really started on the defensive end. It was one of our best team games, as scoring was the most spread out it has been all year.”

Spirit Lake’s girls basketball team picked up a non-conference home win over Rock Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The Indians edged the Rockets 47-42 in Spirit Lake after topping rival Okoboji the previous night.

Wolves drop conference road game to Wolverines

 

Harris-Lake Park’s boys basketball team fell behind early but battled throughout a War Eagle Conference road loss to South O’Brien on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The Wolverines topped the Wolves 54-37 in Paullina.

Wolves extend win streak to 3 games

 

Harris-Lake Park’s girls basketball team extended its win streak to three games with a dominant performance against South O’Brien on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The Wolves jumped out to a 20-4 first-quarter lead to defeat the Wolverines 56-29 in Paullina.
