Offenses combine for 31 runs in Wolves loss to Royals

Harris-Lake Park’s softball team scored a season-high 12 runs in a War Eagle Conference matchup with MMCRU on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to earn a victory, as the Royals outscored the Wolves 19-12 in Cleghorn.

New fish structure maps added to DNR Website

More than 2,000 updated fish structure locations and 215 lake contour maps have been added to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website at www.iowadnr.gov/Fishing/Fishing-Maps.

Spring turkey season ends on a high note

Despite some challenging weather conditions, Iowa’s wild turkey hunters reported harvesting nearly 12,000 birds through the mandatory registration system. While similar to 2021, the 300 additional birds registered represented and overall state increase in harvest of around two percent.

Iowa’s spring turkey seasons began April 8 with the youth season and ended on May 15. Hunters purchased nearly 52,500 spring turkey tags.

Spirit Lake’s softball team took an early lead and held off a West Lyon run in the middle innings to secure a nonconference home win over the Wildcats Thursday, May 26. The Indians whooped the Wildcats 10-6 in Spirit Lake after suffering an 8-1 road loss to Newell-Fonda the previous night.

Okoboji jumped all over Siouxland Conference foe George-Little Rock Friday, as the Pioneers secured their first softball victory of the season. The Pioneers plated four runs in the first, seven in the second and one in the third to defeat the Mustangs 12-0 in Milford.

Indians, Pioneers, Wolves compete in Dickinson County Classic baseball tournament

Dickinson County rivals Spirit Lake, Okoboji and Harris-Lake Park squared off in a baseball tournament dubbed the “Dickinson County Classic” on Saturday, May 28. The Indians played host and went 2-0 on the day. The Pioneers went 1-1 and the Wolves went 0-2.
