Indians take fourth in Lakes Conference Meet

Spirit Lake girls golf competed in the 2025 Lakes Conference Meet on Monday, May 12 at Emerald Hills Golf Club, coming away with a fourth place finish. 
Bella Marx led the Indians with an individual score of 109 (58-51), followed by Kendall Brant with a 117 (58-59), Reese Lundt a 119 (59-60) and Piper Marx a 120 (60-60) to round out a team score of 465. Aliza Vander Leest carded a 124 (58-66) and McKenzie Barthole a 134 (65-69) for the Indians. 

Spirit Lake finishes fifth in competitive Lakes Conference Meet

A tight battle between second through fifth separated by seven strokes occurred at the 2025 Lakes Conference Boys Golf Meet in Spencer on Monday, with Spirit Lake finishing fifth.
Jake Jacobs carded the Indians’ lowest score out of the No. 3 spot with a 79. Jaizik Miller followed with an 81, Kaleb Johnson an 82 and Max Graves an 88 to round out team scoring. Cam DeVos carded a 90 and Brayden Garvin a 94.

SL-O push past Spencer, lock up Lakes regular season title

Spirit Lake-Okoboji boys tennis rounded out their 2025 season undefeated with a 6-3 win at Spencer on Monday, May 12, earning the Lakes Conference regular season bragging rights on top of their conference tournament championship. 
“It feels great to repeat from last season,” senior JD Schneider said. “It was a hard fought match between Spencer and us. They made it worth the while. I’ve loved every moment of competing this season, and they sure made it a competition today.” 

Wolves finish third in WEC tournament

Harris-Lake Park boys golf ended their 2025 regular season with the War Eagle Conference Golf Tournament on Monday, May 12 at Willow Creek in Le Mars, placing third as a team with a score of 339.
Caden VantHul and Wyatt Wittrock both carded 83 on the 18-hole course, followed by Seth Goodell with an 86 and Nate Goodell an 87 to round out scoring. Mason Ahrenstorff carded a 91 and Beckett Rahe a 97. 

Spirit Lake repeats as Lakes Conference champs

Faith DeWild and her senior teammates took advantage of one last opportunity to compete at home as Spirit Lake girls track and field hosted the 2025 Lakes Conference Meet on Thursday, May 8, and the seniors jumped on this chance with their second straight conference title.

Spirit Lake was blessed with some of the “best track weather” coach Brad Travis has ever seen as the Indians hosted the 2025 Lakes Conference Meet on Thursday, May 8, winning the program’s 13th conference crown behind 165 points. 

PIONEER 3-PETE - Okoboji crushes Siouxland Conference Meet

“It’s been a wild ride,” are the words Trigg Heimdal came up with after Okoboji boys track and field secured their third consecutive Siouxland Conference Meet championship on Thursday, May 8 at Central Lyon, the senior having run on in all three seasons. 
“The Siouxland is one of the hardest conferences in the state,” Heimdal said. “It’s been difficult, especially last season. It’s an honor to run against the best in the state every year. We had a lot of fun today.”

Kleckner, Struecker punch their ticket to state tennis

Cambrie Kleckner dreamed of the moment she and doubles partner Sydnee Struecker qualified for state the night before Monday’s individual tournament.
“In my dream, we collapsed on the ground and we rolled around,” Kleckner said with a laugh. “It’s probably a good thing neither one of us did that.”

HLP girls test their mettle at War Eagle Meet

Harris-Lake Park girls track and field came into the War Eagle Conference Meet on Monday, May 5 at West Sioux with a singular goal: continued improvement across the board. 
“We probably ran in the warmest meet we’ve had all spring,” coach Matt Mentink said. “I definitely think that affected us, but I’m happy that we came out with some PRs and hopefully we’re close to finalizing our events before the state qualifier.”

Harper leaps into 18th birthday, Wolves compete at War Eagle Meet

Ethan Harper celebrated his 18th birthday with his Harris-Lake Park boys track and field team at the 2025 War Eagle Conference Meet on Monday, May 5 at West Sioux with a pair of top five finishes as the Wolves placed eighth as a team. 
“My birthday has never happened during a meet,” Harper laughed. “It felt strange, but I jumped well today and felt good.”

United keeps momentum rolling, shuts out Dutch

Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji-Estherville United boys soccer defeated MOC-Floyd Valley 4-0 on Thursday, May 1 to extend their shutout streak to two games and a 14-0 difference.

HLP knocks down conference leader Gehlen Catholic

Harris-Lake Park boys golf beat out Gehlen Catholic, the last undefeated team in the War Eagle Conference, behind a 161-170 effort on Thursday, May 2 as the postseason draws closer.
Seth Goodell won medalist with a score of 38 on a windy Thursday at Silver Lake Country Club. Caden VantHul followed with a 40, Wyatt Wittrock a 41, and Mason Ahrenstorff a 42 to round out scoring for the Wolves. Nate Goodell carded a 42 and Beckett Rahe a 51.

Okoboji secures second in home tournament

Spirit Lake’s Jaizik Miller is a member out at Emerald Hills Golf Club, yet he’s admittedly struggled to shoot into the 70s on a good day. 
Saturday proved a great day for the Indian sophomore as he carded a 68 (-4) to earn medalist honors at the 2025 Okoboji Invitational, where he birdied on eight holes and the host Pioneers placed second as a team.  

SL-O repeats as Lakes Conference Tournament champs

Back-to-back champs! Spirit Lake-Okoboji boys tennis hosted the 2025 Lake Conference Tournament on Wednesday, April 30, earning their second-straight tournament title.
“To get a team title two years in a row is fantastic,” coach Dan Taylor said. “Last year was the first time in 20 years or so, so to get that monkey off our back was huge. We’ve had some excellent teams over those years, and this team is showing they are right there.”

Sloths win one last spring Lakes Conference tournament

Your 2025 Lakes Conference Girls Tennis Tournament Champions, the Spirit Lake-Okoboji…Sloths?
The Spirit Lake-Okoboji Tennis Hardcourt Superstars, aka the Sloths, went undefeated in singles and 6-2 in doubles on Wednesday, April 30, to secure their 22nd Lakes Conference Tournament title since 1994. 
But of course, they have been the Sloths since 2021 only in name, moving with plenty of grace and urgency on the court to achieve this feat. 

Spirit Lake girls build momentum at Drake Relays

Spirit Lake girls track and field took a variety of events to the next level at the 115th Drake Relays over the weekend, showing a 2A school could compete with the likes of larger schools with the right athletes on board. 
“The Drake Relays feel completely different from state,” senior Reese Keenan said. “It feels more exclusive, and it helps push us to our best to compete with the very best. I love being able to say I run for Spirit Lake with the best teammates.”
