Spirit Lake girls golf wins at Orange City

Spirit Lake’s girls golf team earned a first-place finish at a meet hosted by Unity Christian Thursday, May 5 in Orange City. The Indians carded a combined round of 197 to top runner-up Unity Christian (214) and third-place finisher Western Christian (223) at Landsmeer Golf Club.

Postma leads ‘Boji boys to 3rd-place finish at conference track meet

Caleb Postma earned a pair of championships and helped a relay team to a runner-up finish while leading the Okoboji boys track team to a third-place finish at the 2022 Siouxland Conference Championships held Thursday, May 5 at Sioux Center.

Okoboji girls place 5th at conference track meet

Okoboji’s girls track team placed fifth at the Siouxland Conference track meet held Thursday, May 5 in Sioux Center. The Pioneers tallied 68 points and eight top-three finishes — including three championships — on the day.

Ethnee Jorgensen won the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 100-meter dash in 25.99 and 12.91 seconds, respectively. Ellsa Jorgensen placed third in the 100-meter dash in 13.21 seconds.

Wolves boys golfers battle talented field at Sanborn

Harris-Lake Park’s boys golf team competed against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, MMCRU and Akron-Westfield in Sanborn on Tuesday, May 3. The Wolves carded a 196 to fall to the Hawks (191), Royals (186) and Westerners (159).

Braydan Perkins and Lucas Ahrenstorff led the Wolves with their rounds f 46. Carter Hibma (51) and Chayce Forbes (53) rounded out Harris-Lake Park’s scoring. Landon Greve and Owen Engel both carded rounds of 58.

Harris-Lake Park’s girls golf team squared off with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Akron-Westfield and MMCRU Tuesday, May 3 in Sanborn. The Wolves carded a 226 to fall to the Hawks (205), Westerners (194) and Royals (204).

SL-O boys tennis places 3rd at conference tourney

The Spirit Lake-Okoboji boys tennis team earned a third-place finish at the Lakes Conference tournament held Wednesday, May 4 at Speier Park in Okoboji. Spencer took the team title and Estherville Lincoln Central placed second. Storm Lake placed fourth and Cherokee placed fifth.

Schneider leads SL-O girls at conference tournament

Spirit Lake-Okoboji clinched a team championship and each of its athletes earned all-conference honors at the Lakes Conference tournament played Wednesday, May 4 at Storm Lake.

SL-O’s Taylor Schneider won the No. 1 singles title and earned First Team All-Lakes Conference honors. SL-O’s No. 1 doubles team of Catherine and Emma Straus placed second to earn First Team All-Lakes Conference honors.

Spirit Lake’s boys golf team earned a narrow victory over Lakes Conference rival Storm Lake on Tuesday, May 3. The Indians edged the Tornadoes 166-169 at Brooks Golf in Okoboji.

Wind plays a factor in Iowa Great Lakes Walleye Weekend

The 40th annual Iowa Great Lakes Walleye Weekend is in the books. Lots of people entered the tagged walleye contest, fished in the many divisions and celebrated the weekend at the awards luncheon held at the Dickinson County Expo Building on Sunday.

 

Weather certainly played a big part in the opener. Friday night could not have been a more perfect evening. Basically, you could fish where you wanted and how you wanted.

SLP-O boys defeat Nighthawks on senior night

The Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji boys soccer team earned its third straight victory to celebrate senior night in style Monday night in Milford. The squad topped Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 1-0 at Okoboji High School to improve to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Senior Austin Harms scored SLP-O’s lone goal early in the first half off of an assist from Mario Castillo.

SLP-O girls soccer drops home game to Falcons

The Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji girls soccer team surrendered three first-half goals that proved to be the difference Thursday night in a 3-0 home loss to West Sioux.

Hailey Triplet connected on all three goals, securing a hat trick for the Falcons in Spirit Lake.
