Spirit Lake boys place 6th at conference golf tournament

Spirit Lake’s boys golf team struggled at the Lakes Conference boys golf tournament held Monday, May 9 at Lake Creek Country Club in Storm Lake. The Indians carded a combined round of 375 to place sixth.

Western Christian won the team title with a round of 330. The Wolfpack were followed by Spencer (343), Cherokee (360), Storm Lake (364) and Estherville Lincoln Central (365).

Okoboji’s boys golf season came to a close Wednesday, May 11 at the Class 2A sectional tournament played at Emerald Hills Golf Club in Arnolds Park.

Spirit Lake’s Early moves on from sectional golf tournament

Spirit Lake senior Isaac Early was the only Indian to advance from the Class 2A boys sectional golf tournament played Wednesday, May 11 at Rolling Hills Golf Club in Hull.

Early placed fourth with his round of 78 and led the Indians to a fourth-place team score of 353. Spirit Lake came just six strokes away from advancing as a team.

Perkins advances for H-LP boys golf

Harris-Lake Park’s Braydan Perkins was the lone Wolves golfer to advance past the opening round of postseason play at Wednesday’s boys sectional golf tournament at Primghar Golf Course in Paullina.

Perkins carded an 81 to win the individual title and lead the Wolves to a fourth-place score of 401.

SL-O girls tennis trio punches state tourney tickets

Spirit Lake-Okoboji girls tennis players Catherine Straus, Taylor Schneider and Abbie Oleson each punched their tickets to the 2022 state tournament following their performances at the regional singles and doubles tournament played Wednesday, May 11 in Le Mars.

Straus won the regional singles title while Schneider and Oleson finished second in doubles.

Spirit Lake-Okoboji’s girls tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep over Lakes Conference rival Storm Lake Friday, May 6 at Speier Park in Okoboji to claim its 14th consecutive Lakes Conference dual meet crown. SL-O’s run to the title wasn’t without adversity this season, however, as the squad had several players miss time with injuries.

SLP-O girls soccer stomps Storm Lake

The Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji girls soccer team secured a Lakes Conference victory Thursday, as the squad stomped Storm Lake 4-1 at home.

SLP-O took a 2-1 lead at the half before burying a pair of goals in the second to pull away for good.

The Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji boys soccer team went into halftime knotted with Le Mars but emerged with a 5-3 home victory Friday.

SLP-O coach Alan Ditsworth said it was a back-and-forth match early on.

SL-O boys tennis tripped up by Midgets

Spirit Lake-Okoboji battled but ultimately dropped a home dual to Lakes Conference rival Estherville Lincoln Central Thursday at Speier Park in Okoboji. SL-O earned two wins in doubles and a win in singles, as the Midgets went home with a 6-3 victory.

SLP-O girls soccer falls to Unity Christian at home

The Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji girls soccer team came up short in a home loss to Unity Christian on Monday, May 9. SLP-O fell 1-0 to the Knights in Milford.

Unity Christian’s lone goal came in the first half, as Callie Karhoff scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 30th minute.
