GOIN’ FOR GOLD: Indians dominate state qualifying meet, advance 16 events to state

Spirit Lake’s boys track team was absolutely dominant at the Class 2A state qualifying meet held Friday, May 13 in Cherokee. The Indians lapped the field, winning 10 events, earning three runner-up finishes, totaling 166 points and advancing 16 events to the 2022 Iowa High School State Track & Field Championships slated for Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21 in Des Moines.

Okoboji girls qualify 7 events in Cherokee

Okoboji’s girls track team will send seven events to the 2022 Iowa High School State Track & Field Championships in Des Moines following a stellar showing at the Class 2A state qualifying meet held Friday, May 13 in Cherokee.

Boji boys send 5 to state track

Following their performance at the Class 2A state qualifying meet held Friday, May 13 at Cherokee, Okoboji’s boys track athletes will send five events to the 2022 Iowa High School State Track & Field Championships slated for Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21 in Des Moines.

The Pioneers placed third overall at the meet and earned five top-two finishes — and automatic bids —on the day.

Spirit Lake Park girls send 9 to state track meet

Following a solid performance at the Class 3A state qualifying meet held Friday, May 12 at Le Mars, the Spirit Lake Park girls track team advanced nine events to the 2022 Iowa High School State Track & Field Championships slated for Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21 in Des Moines.

Jurva to represent Harris-Lake Park at state track

Harris-Lake Park senior Tyler Jurva will be the lone wolf to represent his squad at the 2022 Iowa High School State Track & Field Championships slated for Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Jurva’s throw of 136 feet placed third in the discus at the Class 1A state qualifying meet held Friday, May 12 in Lawton.

Spirit Lake’s Early competes at district golf tournament

Spirit Lake senior Isaac Early ended his postseason run Monday, May 16 at the Class 2A boys district golf tournament in Shendandoah. Early carded a 79 on the day, missing out on qualifying for the state tournament by four strokes.

SLP-O girls soccer ends regular season with road win

The Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji girls soccer team wrapped its regular season slate with a 4-1 road win over Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan on Monday, May 16. SLP-O defeated the Orabs 4-1 in Sheldon.

Harris-Lake Park’s Perkins qualifies for state golf tourney

Harris-Lake Park’s Braydan Perkins will represent the Wolves at the 2022 IHSAA Class 1A State Golf Tournament slated for Monday-Tuesday, May 23-24 at Ames Golf & Country Club.

Perkins carded an 83 at the district tournament played Monday, May 16 at Spring Valley Golf Course in Algona.

SL-O girls tennis advances in postseason

The Spirit Lake-Okoboji girls tennis team advanced to the Class 1A regional championship with a pair of wins over Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Le Mars at Le Mars on Wednesday, May 11. SL-O was dominant in its wins over the Warriors and Bulldogs, earning 5-0 wins over both.

Taylor Schneider, Abbie Oleson, Emma Straus, Izzie Wycoff and Mikayla Mingus each picked up 2-0 wins in their singles matches against Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Spirit Lake girls golfers advance in postseason play

Spirit Lake’s girls golf team earned a runner-up finish Friday to advance to the second round of postseason play. The Indians carded a combined score of 400 to finish two strokes off the pace set by tournament champion West Lyon at the first round regional tournament played at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.

Okoboji girls golfers advance in postseason play

Okoboji’s girls golf team carded a combined round of 393 to place second and advance in postseason play at Friday’s first round of the Class 2A regional tournament played at Holstein Country Club. The Pioneers edged third-place finisher Clarion-Goldfield-Dows by five strokes. Pocahontas Area placed first with a combined score of 387.

Wolves’ girls golf season ends at regional tourney

Harris-Lake Park’s girls golf season came to an end Friday at the Class 1A regional tournament played at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Graettinger. The Wolves carded a 428 to place third.

Zella Ingham carded the low round for Harris-Lake Park with a 103. Rylie Wittrock (108), Madeline Greve (108) and Tessa Gunderson (109) rounded out the Wolves’ scoring.

SL-O boys tennis wraps postseason play

The Spirit Lake-Okoboji boys tennis team’s season came to a close Friday with a loss to Estherville Lincoln Central in the preliminary substate meet. The Midgets earned a 5-2 win over SL-O.

SL-O had a pair of singles victories. Evan Beck earned a 2-0 win (6-4, 6-3) over ELC’s Jack Jensen and Caleb Frostestad earned a 2-1 win (3-6, 6-4, 6-1) over ELC’s Grant Love.

Wolves girls golf competes at War Eagle meet

Harris-Lake Park’s girls golf team carded a 440 to place sixth at the War Eagle Conference tournament played Tuesday, May 10 at The Ridge Golf Course in Sioux Center.

Tessa Gunderson and Zella Ingham both earned Second Team All-War Eagle Conference honors at the tournament. Gunderson placed eighth with her round of 103 and Ingham carded a 110 for the Wolves.
