Spirit Lake’s softball team took an early lead and held off a West Lyon run in the middle innings to secure a nonconference home win over the Wildcats Thursday, May 26. The Indians whooped the Wildcats 10-6 in Spirit Lake after suffering an 8-1 road loss to Newell-Fonda the previous night.

Okoboji’s baseball team put on a dominant display Friday night, earning an impressive 10-run victory over Siouxland Conference rival George-Little Rock. The Pioneers scored eight runs in the opening frame and mauled the Mustangs 12-2 in Milford.

Dickinson County rivals Spirit Lake, Okoboji and Harris-Lake Park squared off in a baseball tournament dubbed the “Dickinson County Classic” on Saturday, May 28. The Indians played host and went 2-0 on the day. The Pioneers went 1-1 and the Wolves went 0-2.

Indians win 4 at Sioux City softball tournament

Spirit Lake’s softball team was dominant at a two-day tournament held in Sioux City over the weekend. The Indians went 4-0, defeating Lawton-Bronson, Sioux City North, Sioux City East and Council Bluffs Lewis Central on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28.

Harris-Lake Park’s softball team suffered a lopsided road loss to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Friday, May 27. The Hawks defeated the Wolves 16-4 in Hartley.

“It was a rough night for us,” Harris-Lake Park coach Ashley Delaney said. “We had a few breakdowns and add that in with some hits for HMS and it was the perfect storm for us. We know we are capable of playing better and we will bounce back.”

Pioneers power past Titans following weather delay

With Wednesday’s nonconference game knotted at 1-1 in the top of the third, wet weather forced the Okoboji and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire baseball teams to delay play for a couple of days. The two squads met back up on Friday, May 27 and the Pioneers mauled the Titans 14-2 in Milford.

Okoboji’s softball team suffered a lopsided loss to Siouxland Conference foe Central Lyon on Thursday, May 26. The Lions topped the Pioneers 10-0 in Rock Rapids.

“We struggled to get our bats going tonight,” Okoboji coach Kate Perrin said. “I thought our freshman pitcher, Kristina Kraninger, pitched a good game. We just need to continue to work on the fundamentals of the game and do the little things right.”

Indians softball drops road game to Newell-Fonda

Spirit Lake’s softball team suffered its first loss of the young season during a road trip to Newell-Fonda on Wednesday, May 25. The Mustangs topped the Indians 8-1 in Fonda.

“Unfortunately we were not able to get tough enough to handle the weather conditions,” Spirit Lake coach Rachel Fisher said. “Newell-Fonda showed their toughness by battling through the very rainy weather.”

Spirit Lake baseball drops road game to Forest City

A scoring surge in the middle innings powered Forest City to a 12-2 home win over Spirit Lake’s baseball squad in non-conference matchup played Tuesday, May 24 in Forest City.

The teams were knotted at 1-1 through two innings before the hosts plated three in the third and seven in the fourth to pull away. Spirit Lake scored a run in the second and another in the fourth.
