Missouri and Big Sioux River paddlefish license go on sale Dec. 15

Iowa anglers can buy the Missouri and Big Sioux River paddlefish license and tags starting Dec. 15 through Jan. 7.

2024 hunting, fishing licenses on sale Dec. 15

Iowans can buy 2024 resident hunting, fishing and other licenses on Dec. 15.  Licenses purchased for 2023 expire on Jan. 10.

The menu of license options includes the popular Outdoor Combo annual resident hunting/fishing/habitat combo license for $55; the Angler’s Special three-year fishing license for $62; and the Hunter’s Special three-year hunting license with habitat included for $101.

The Okoboji/HMS boys wrestling team hosted a tournament over the weekend. The Pioneers put three wrestlers into the championships, had five wrestlers earn top-three finishes, and placed sixth as a team with 127 points.

The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team hosted its annual home tournament on Friday, Dec. 1. The Pioneers earned four top-five individual finishes and placed ninth as a team.

Spencer took the team title with 201 points.

Indians top Wildcats, earn first win of boys hoops season


Spirit Lake’s boys basketball team opened both halves on fire in a non-conference home victory over Humboldt on Monday, Dec. 4. The Indians bounced back from a home loss to MOC-Floyd Valley by topping the Wildcats 73-68 for their first victory of the season in Spirit Lake.

Spirit Lake’s girls basketball team earned its first win of the season with a non-conference home victory over MOC-Floyd Valley on Thursday, Nov. 30. The Indians opened with a 28-25 halftime lead before downing the Dutchmen 64-48 in Spirit Lake.

Spirit Lake’s boys basketball team dropped a non-conference home game to MOC-Floyd Valley on Thursday, Nov. 30. The Dutchmen defeated the Indians 70-51 in Spirit Lake.

“MOC controlled the game from the tip it felt like,” Spirit Lake coach Paul Brown said. “They really exposed us in some areas on both offense and defense where I do not believe we executed well. It will be a great game for us to learn from and to continue to get better.”

Spirit Lake Park boys compete at weekend tournament


Spirit Lake Park’s boys wrestling team competed at the 2023 Okoboji/HMS Invitational held Saturday, Dec. 2 at Okoboji High School in Milford. The Indians earned to top-five individual finishes and placed 10th as a team.

Tyson DeWall placed second at 106 pounds and Landon Wittrock placed fifth at 138 pounds to lead the Indians.

Spirit Lake Park’s Cassie McKeen earned the Indians’ lone championship at the 2023 Okoboji/HMS Girls Wrestling Tournament held Friday, Dec. 1 at Okoboji High School in Milford. The Indians put three individuals on the podium and placed 13th as a team.

The Okoboji/HMS boys wrestling team split a pair of home duals with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and Spencer on Thursday, Nov. 30. The Pioneers earned a 42-30 win over the Titans and fell 66-16 to the Tigers in Milford.

In their win over the Titans, the Pioneers picked up five individual wins.

Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling splits duals with Titans, Tigers


The Okoboji/HMS girls wrestling team went 1-1 in a pair of duals against Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and Spencer on Thursday, Nov. 30. The Pioneers earned a 48-27 win over the Titans and fell 60-24 to the Tigers in Milford.

In their win over the Titans, the Pioneers picked up two individual wins. At 105 pounds, Brooke Stockdale pinned GT/RA’s Katherine Scott in 34 seconds. At 130 pounds, Alyana Hesse pinned GT/RA’s Bonita Jordan in 1 minute, 44 seconds.

Harris-Lake Park girls fall to Alta-Aurelia in OT


Harris-Lake Park’s girls basketball team dropped a home game with Alta-Aurelia on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The Wolves came back from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 48-48, but fell 60-52 to the Warriors in overtime in Lake Park.
