Harris-Lake Park’s defense struggled to back up a solid performance by starting pitcher Javen Baumgarn in a home loss to Sioux Central on Thursday, June 2. Baumgarn allowed just three earned runs while striking out five batters in six innings of a 9-4 loss to the Rebels.

New fish structure maps added to DNR Website

More than 2,000 updated fish structure locations and 215 lake contour maps have been added to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website at www.iowadnr.gov/Fishing/Fishing-Maps.

Spring turkey season ends on a high note

Despite some challenging weather conditions, Iowa’s wild turkey hunters reported harvesting nearly 12,000 birds through the mandatory registration system. While similar to 2021, the 300 additional birds registered represented and overall state increase in harvest of around two percent.

Iowa’s spring turkey seasons began April 8 with the youth season and ended on May 15. Hunters purchased nearly 52,500 spring turkey tags.

WILDIN’ OUT: Spirit Lake softball squad earns home win over West Lyon Wildcats

Spirit Lake’s softball team took an early lead and held off a West Lyon run in the middle innings to secure a nonconference home win over the Wildcats Thursday, May 26. The Indians whooped the Wildcats 10-6 in Spirit Lake after suffering an 8-1 road loss to Newell-Fonda the previous night.
