SLP’s Preston wins title at Okoboji girls tourney

 

Spirit Lake Park brought six high school girls to the 2022 Okoboji Girls Wrestling Tournament held Friday, Dec. 2 in Milford and brought back one championship and a pair of runner-up finishes.

Aroura Preston won the title at 88-94 pounds, pinning Spencer’s Taneisha Alfarao in 1 minute, 25 seconds and Ridge View’s Isabel Ekchan in 1:29.

Okoboji/HMS girls compete at home tournament

 

More than 270 girls wrestlers representing 21 schools in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota competed at the 2022 Okoboji Girls Tournament held Friday, Dec. 2 in Milford. The Pioneers had 11 high school wrestlers in the tournament and earned five top-three finishes.

“We had a huge turnout,” Okoboji/HMS coach Nate Dau said. “We ended up having 277 girls in attendance that evening and, all in all, it was a great experience for those competing and those in attendance.”

Okoboji’s girls basketball team dropped a Siouxland Conference road trip to West Lyon on Friday, Dec. 2. The Wildcats topped the Pioneers 68-63 in Inwood.

Okoboji’s boys basketball team dropped a Siouxland Conference road game to West Lyon on Friday, Dec. 2. The Wildcats topped the Pioneers 82-39 in Inwood.

Drew Behrens and Caleb Simington led Okoboji with nine points each. Caden Jostand pulled down eight rebounds. Josh Leman had six points and four rebounds. Aidan Dahms had five points and four rebounds for the Pioneers, who fell to 0-2 overall on the season.

Okoboji/HMS girls place 5th at Sergeant Bluff

 

Okoboji/HMS’ girls wrestling team placed fifth out of 19 teams at the 2022 Sergeant Bluff-Luton Lady Warriors Invitational held Monday, Dec. 5 in Sergeant Bluff.

Alex Koep and Avery Ballis led the Pioneers with a pair of runner-up finishes.

Koep went 2-1 in the 115-pound Gold bracket, pinning BH/RV’s Mackenzie Sandbulte in 29 seconds and SB-L’s Josie Lennon in 1 minute, 10 seconds before falling to Spencer’s Kailee Spencer in 2:23.

Preston earns runner-up finish at Sergeant Bluff tourney

 

Spirit Lake Park’s Aurora Preston earned a runner-up finish to lead the Indians’ girls wrestling program at the 2022 Sergeant Bluff-Luton Lady Warriors Invitational held Monday, Dec. 5 in Sergeant Bluff. The Indians placed 17th overall.

Indians compete at Lyle Lundgren Duals

 

Spirit Lake Park’s boys wrestling team went 0-4 at the Lyle Lundgren Duals held Saturday, Dec. 3 at Orange City. The Indians fell 48-30 to Dakota Valley (SD), 67-6 to MOC-Floyd Valley, 48-34 to West Lyon and 72-12 to West Monona-Whiting.

Indians open boys hoops season with loss to Dutch

 

Spirit Lake’s boys basketball team started the season with a non-conference road loss to MOC-Floyd Valley on Thursday, Dec. 1. The Dutch topped the Indians 85-69 in Orange City.

Indians earn hard-fought road win over Dutch

 

After securing a 20-point non-conference road victory over Western Christian on Tuesday, Spirit Lake’s girls basketball team brought home another non-conference road win over MOC-Floyd Valley on Thursday, Dec. 1. The Indians edged the Dutch 56-50 in Orange City.

Spirit Lake Park’s boys wrestling team went 0-2 in duals against Sheldon/South O’Brien and Worthington (MN) on Thursday, Dec. 1. The Indians fell 72-15 to Sheldon/South O’Brien and 66-18 to Worthington.

Spirit Lake Park’s girls wrestling team dropped a pair of duals in Sheldon on Thursday, Dec. 1. The Indians fell 42-18 to Central Lyon/George-Little Rock and 33-30 to Sheldon/South O’Brien.

Pioneers go 1-1 at Spencer double dual

 

Okoboji/HMS went 1-1 in a double dual with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and Spencer on Thursday, Dec. 1. The Pioneers earned a 42-36 win over the Titans but fell 50-24 to the host Tigers in Spencer.

In their win over the Titans, the Pioneers went 6-6 in contested matches.

Wolves drop road game to Warriors

 

After dropping a lopsided contest to Adrian/Ellsworth (MN) on Saturday, Harris-Lake Park performed much better in a road loss to Alta-Aurelia on Monday, Nov. 28. The Warriors topped the Wolves 61-26 in Alta.
