Wolves go 0-2 at Central Lyon softball tournament

Harris-Lake Park’s softball team dropped a pair of games at a tournament hosted by Central Lyon on Saturday, June 25. The Wolves fell 11-4 to Sibley-Ocheyedan before dropping a 9-8 heartbreaker to Central Lyon.

Lions defeat Indians in nonconference clash

Spirit Lake’s baseball team dropped a nonconference road game to Central Lyon on Friday, June 24. The Lions defeated the Indians 15-5 in Rock Rapids.

Boji baseball falls to Sibley-Ocheyedan

Okoboji’s baseball team fell behind early in a 9-5 Siouxland Conference road loss to Sibley-Ocheyedan on Friday, June 24.

The Generals scored eight runs in the opening frame and tacked on another in the second to take a 9-0 lead. Okoboji battled back, scoring a run in the third, another in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull within four, but it was too little, too late.

Pioneers wrap busy week with 5th loss

Okoboji’s softball team played its fifth game in five days Friday and, unfortunately, suffered a fifth consecutive loss — this one at the hands of Siouxland Conference foe Sibley-Ocheyedan. The Generals defeated the Pioneers 10-0 in Sibley.

After two scoreless innings, the Generals plated a run in the third, five in the fourth and four in the sixth while blanking the Pioneers.

Okoboji softball falls to No. 12 Sioux Center

Okoboji’s softball team dropped a road game to Siouxland Conference rival Sioux Center on Thursday, June 23. The 12th-ranked (3A) Warriors defeated the Pioneers 12-0 in Sioux Center.

Sioux Center plated five runs in the opening frame before scoring four in the third and three more in the fourth to end the evening early.

Okoboji’s softball team dropped a Siouxland Conference home game to Sheldon on Wednesday, June 22. The Orabs defeated the Pioneers 9-2 in Milford.

Sheldon plated a run in the first, three in the second and three in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. The Pioneers pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom half of the fifth, but the Orabs blanked the hosts the rest of the way while tacking on two runs in the top of the seventh.

Okoboji softball drops road game to Indians

Okoboji’s softball team dropped a nonconference contest to Pocahontas Area on Tuesday, June 21. The Indians defeated the Pioneers 12-0 in Pocahontas.

Pocahontas Area scored five runs in the first, three in the second and four in the fourth while holding the Pioneers scoreless to end the night early.

U OF O FUNDS TENNIS BACKBOARD PROJECT

The 2021 University of Okoboji junior tennis tournament funded a new playback board for the Spirit Lake-Okoboji tennis program. Tournament director Rod Lawrence headed the project that included numerous volunteers. Team members want to thank Heartland Paints and Lakes Construction for their support of the project. SL-O coach Bob O’Hara said he was delighted to have a playback board again. Replacing the old one would have been costly for the school.

Fishing seminar set for Okoboji Blue Water Festival

The final piece of the puzzle has come together for the 2022 Okoboji Blue Water Festival scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13 in Preservation Plaza at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park. First came the announcement of Chad Pregracke as the mid-afternoon’s keynote speaker. Next came headliner Melissa Etheridge for the evening concert. Now, professional walleye angler Keith Kavajecz has agreed to share his fishing expertise at the 10 a.m. fishing seminar.

How Jay Pzrekurat discovered bass

Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club sets spring seminar lineup

Here’s some pretty exciting news from the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club. Early each spring, the IGLFC hosts its annual Spring Fishing Seminar, and according to IGLFC president Terry Thomsen, the club just lined up Joe Henry, Executive Director for Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota and veteran fishing guide and tournament angler, for its 2022 spring seminar on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Pheasant hunters bagged 375,000 roosters in 2021

Survey results confirmed what Iowa pheasant hunters already knew – pheasant hunting last fall was really good. In fact, it was the best in more than a decade. Iowa hunters bagged an estimated 375,000 roosters in 2021, the most since 2008.
