Greve medals at West Lyon meet

Harris-Lake Park junior Landon Greve earned his first-ever medal at a cross country meet hosted by West Lyon on Monday, Sept. 12. Greve placed 11th at the meet, finishing in 20 minutes, 3.67 seconds.

According to coach Rebecca Matthiesen, Greve ran the race 1 minute and 42 seconds faster than he ran this same race a year ago.

Iowa DNR accepting comments on proposed walleye length limit changes on Lake Rathbun

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting comments on proposed changes to walleye length limits on Lake Rathbun, through Sept. 29.

The DNR is proposing a 15-inch minimum length limit on all walleye captured from Rathbun Lake. These changes will start January 1, 2023.  All walleyes measuring less than 15 inches must be immediately released. Anglers can keep five walleyes per day.  This regulation will not apply to the Chariton River below Rathbun Dam.

Spirit Lake’s Krieger wins at Estherville

Spirit Lake senior Katelyn Krieger won the first individual title of her cross country career Tuesday, Sept. 6 at a meet hosted by Estherville Lincoln Central.

Krieger finished the race in 20 minutes, 50.44 seconds — defeating runner-up Tyra Schupbach of West Bend-Mallard by more than 10 seconds — and led the Indians to a fourth-place team finish on the day.

Boji girls win; boys place 2nd at Estherville

Okoboji’s girls and boys cross country teams proved themselves among the best in the area at a meet hosted by Estherville Lincoln Central on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The Pioneers girls squad won the meet and the boys placed second overall at Estherville Golf Course.
