Thomas (Tom) Larson, age 74, of Milford passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Tom was born on Dec. 2, 1947, to Alvin and Donna Larson. After Tom graduated from Milford High School in 1965, he joined the US Army and served his country in the Vietnam War.

A memorial service for Brian Schwarting, age 70, of Harris was held Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at United Methodist Church in Harris. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Harris.

Sara Mae Higgins Koepp passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, in the skilled nursing facility Accura of Milford. Her family is thankful she is no longer suffering from the lymphoma she has battled since last year, and the complications of a recent compound fracture of her leg.

Sara was born on Dec. 20, 1935, to Chrystal Higgins and George O. Higgins of Webb.

A visitation for Charlotte Gould, age 94, of Milford, will be held from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a luncheon at Florence Park.

A private graveside service was held for Madelon DeVries, age 86, of Okoboji.

Madelon Mae DeVries was born Aug. 10, 1935, to Edward Sr. and Laura Goyotte Parks in Spencer.

On April 19, 1958, Madelon married J. Harvey DeVries in Spencer. Madelon resided in Okoboji, and she and Harvey spent their winters in Boca Raton, Florida.

A memorial service for Dwayne "Dewey" Anderson, age 69, of Spirit Lake was held Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. Dwayne LeRoy Anderson, the son of Bertle and Mildred (Johnson) Anderson, was born Sept. 26, 1952, in Armstrong. After graduating high school, Dwayne received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and theatre.

Scott passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Alta Nodland, 102 years old, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022, in Estero, Florida.

Alta (Bertilson) Nodland was born on Nov. 27, 1919 (Thanksgiving Day) on the family farm in Dows. Her childhood was filled with a rollicking, hard-working family, cousins, friends and mischief. She loved to play and was a star guard on the Dows High girls’ basketball team in an era when such opportunities for girls rarely existed.

A come and go gathering to celebrate the life of Duane Alvin Kiner, Jr., will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 at the home of Steve and Penny Weaver (1673 310th Ave., Spirit Lake).

Duane Alvin Kiner, Jr., the son of Duane Alvin, Sr. and Opal Anita (Lewis) Kiner, was born July 21, 1936 in Green County. He was raised and educated in Graettinger.

Jay Barklie Johnston passed away peacefully on July 25, 2022, at the age of 79 in his home in Naples, Florida.

Born on March 27, 1943, to the late Heloise and Barklie Johnston, Jay grew up in Estherville and Okoboji. Jay graduated from Estherville High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from Dartmouth College in 1965 as well as the Tuck School of Business in 1967.

Marvin Nile Harris, age 66, of Spirit Lake passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake with family by his side.

Bernard Raymond Grodahl was born in Rembrandt and graduated from Rembrandt High School in 1939 with his twin sister Bernice.

He was retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers No. 49, which he loved along with hunting, fishing, friends, family and the Minnesota Twins.

A memorial service for Shane von Holdt will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Roof Garden Ballroom in Arnolds Park.

A tribute concert will also be held at the Roof Garden Ballroom at 6 p.m. that day. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at https://roofgardenballroom.com/shows. All proceeds will be donated to the Iowa Rock ’n Roll Music Association.

A celebration of life for Linda Kautz will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022 at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park. The band Galaxy will be playing, and admission is free with the mention of "Linda Kautz Celebration of Life." Doors will open at 5 p.m. with music starting at 6 p.m. Linda passed away on May 3, 2020.
