A celebration of life service for Carl Wohlenberg was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 13, at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Carl passed away Oct. 23, 2023, at his home in Florida.

Carl Lipton Wohlenberg was born July 30, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Carl Christoph and Mary Cecelia Lipton Wohlenberg. His family lived in Holstein, the town which his paternal grandfather helped to found in 1882.

Jackie Lee was born to L.R. (Babe) and Vera June Norman on the snowy afternoon of Nov. 21, 1938, joining Morris, Stan, Jim and Bill, known thereafter as “The Norman Brothers.” As the youngest, Jack tried to measure up to the high standards and ethics he admired in his brothers. When he fell short, Vera June was quick to come to his defense — “Oh, no, not my Jackie Lee!”

Austin “Mac” MacMillan, age 71, of Spirit Lake passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at his home in Spirit Lake.

A funeral service for Dr. Roger Heimensen, age 81, of Largo, Florida, and formerly of Spirit Lake, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Lakeview Gardens in Okoboji. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2023, with the family present from 4-7 p.m. at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

A funeral service for Gwendolyn Dressel, age 80, of Spirit Lake was held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment was at Round Lake Cemetery in Round Lake, Minnesota.

Gwendolyn Faye Dressel, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away on July 2, 2023, at the age of 80. Gwen was born on June 11, 1943, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Marvin and Gladys Bakken.

Mary Jean Baker, age 96, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, in Des Moines. She was born in Casper, Wyoming, to Calvin Brown & Alice (Stevens) Brown on Sept. 24, 1926.

Following the death of her father, her mother raised her and a sister in Nebraska.

A graveside service for Edwin "Ed" Spieker, age 72, of Milford was held Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Milford Cemetery in Milford.

Edwin Anthony Spieker died of esophageal cancer on June 26, 2023, at Accura Healthcare in Milford.

Edwin was born in Estherville, to Lambert and Leona Spieker. He attended grade school and middle school in Milford and went on to do farm work, odd jobs and worked for Handy Andy Yard Service for 15 years.

A celebration of life visitation for Spencer Smith, age 33, of Arnolds Park and formerly of Missouri Valley was held Friday, June 23, 2023, in Missouri Valley.

Spencer James Smith was born on Sept. 20, 1989, in Council Bluffs, the son of Joe and Amy (Baird) Smith. Spencer was raised and educated in Missouri Valley, where he graduated from Missouri Valley High School.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Janice Skram, age 81, of Spirit Lake and formerly of LeMars, will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, July 7, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake.

David Eric Kindwall, age 52, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away Memorial Day Weekend, 2023 due to undetermined causes. A private family burial will be held at Lakeview Garden Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

Local artist, jeweler and landscaper, Celeste Frances Chalfonte (Frances Elaine Thompson), age 76, of Lake Park passed away Jan. 26, 2023, in Spirit Lake surrounded by family. Fran was born on Nov. 3, 1946, in Round Lake, Minnesota, to her late parents, Frank Joseph and Lorraine Emma Louise (Reiners) Thompson.

Jan. 27, 1935 - June 24, 2023

A funeral service for Orville Belken, age 88, of Milford was held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. Burial was in the Milford Cemetery. Visitation took place prior to the service.

Orville passed away on June 24, 2023, at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Denis Conway Kelleher, age 80, died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday June 10 at Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake.

Denis was born on May 25, 1943, in Fort Dodge to parents Elizabeth and John Kelleher. He was one of five children: Travis, Molly, Patricia (deceased) and Kathleen (deceased).
