Sandra "Sandy" Lorenz was born to Lawrence and Betty (Case) Brewer on March 17, 1951, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she had four children. She married Daryll Lorenz on May 11, 1984, and they moved to Iowa in 1990.
