Mingus receives PEO scholarship

Mikayla Mingus, a 2023 graduate of Spirit Lake High School, was selected as the recipient of this year’s $500 scholarship awarded by P.E.O. Chapter MO of Spirit Lake. Mingus, who was chosen on the basis of her leadership, moral character, and academics as well as participation in high school and community activities, plans to continue her education at Iowa State University. P.E.O. is a philanthropic education organization encouraging women to seek their potential through higher education.

The first reading logs for the library's Summer Reading Program will become available Tuesday, May 30. There will be new logs for each of the six weeks of the SRP: one for younger readers, and a different one for older readers. Younger readers will be given prompts such as, read a book in a blanket fort, read a book outside and listen to an audiobook.

Blanding's turtles to be subject of next Kenue Coffee Hour

Introduction to Kayaking starting next month

This summer, the Introduction to Kayaking program is perfect for beginners and those looking to improve their skills. The program will be held on June 13, June 20 and July 18, with two sessions available each day. Each class will have a maximum of four students, ensuring ample individual instruction.

Singer/guitarist “Bat” will perform Tuesday, May 30 at the Pearson Lakes Art Center's Pomerantz Hall. Following his family’s move to New Mexico around the time Bat was in high school, he began meeting other musicians with largely different styles which gave him a whole new world of influences to practice on and draw from in his own music. Bat wrote his first compositions as a teenager, one of which, “Playground” has been recognized Internationally.
