After 50 seasons of bringing imagination to life, Treasure Village Theatre will take its final bow on Saturday, July 30. The Theatre has been performing "Rapunzel" for its 50th and final season, and the show's last run will be July 27-30. Shows start at 10 a.m. Presale tickets are on sale for $7.75 for ages 4-plus, and Treasure Village staff said not many are left for the July 30 finale. Tickets are $7 at the door, but audiences will fill fast as people come for one final show.

After eight years of volunteering as the Northwest Iowa RSVP Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator in Estherville, Joan Nims is ready to hand over the reins to another volunteer this year, preferably someone who can be trained before the next blood drive on Aug. 16. RSVP is partnering with the American Red Cross to find the right volunteer to fill her shoes.

The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at Midwest Companies in Spirit Lake last week to welcome the business as a new member. Owner Dustin Reynolds started the business in 2008 as a construction company. He said the company continued to grow — branching into services they themselves couldn't seem to secure in a certain area. Midwest Companies now includes businesses which offer spray foam services, concrete and excavation work, gutter installation and more.

The Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees met the afternoon of July 19 for their regularly scheduled board meeting on the Algona Campus.

Robert Leifeld, Vice President of Administration, began the meeting by introducing Theresa Waechter, Algona campus supervisor. Wachter provided a campus update and shared her excitement for the upcoming school year.

Representatives of both the Spirit Lake and Iowa Great Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce browsed the shelves at Golden Buys Truckload Outlet Sale in Spirit Lake last week. Owner Darnell Christians explained the business works with a number of familiar and well-known online retailers to offer various goods at discounted prices — often 35-70 percent off.

"We just try to save customers as much as we can," Christians said.

Shannon Paul Sundine, age 45, of Spirit Lake was charged with violating a no contact order at approximately 8:44 p.m. Monday, July 18 in the 500 block of Lake Street in Spirit Lake. A criminal complaint specified Sundine sent the protected party a text message. Sundine was booked into the Dickinson County Jail at 11 p.m. the same day. A non-jury trial in the matter was scheduled for late August, according to a July 20 court filing.

The mobile food pantry from the Food Bank of Iowa is returning again. The free distribution will take place from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, in the Good News Estherville Church parking lot. Recipients are asked not to arrive before 4 p.m. and to remain in their vehicles — do not line up at the door, because the building will be closed. At the July Food Bank, 400 individuals (179 families) received 6,070 pounds of food.

Anthony Eckert of Spirit Lake graduated with a Doctor Of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic's main campus in Davenport on June 17, 2022. The college also recently announced its spring 2022 Dean's List. Matthew Eckard of Milford was among the honorees.

Palmer College of Chiropractic, the first and largest college in the chiropractic profession, has campuses in Davenport; San Jose, California; and Port Orange, Florida.

When the curtain falls on the July 30 performance of “Rapunzel” at Treasure Village, it will mark the end of an era of musical theatre in the Iowa Great Lakes Region.

Garth and Bonnie Neisess and their family have made the difficult decision to close down the children’s theatre at Treasure Village after 50 years of providing live performances for three to four generations of locals and visitors alike.

The plaintiff in a case alleging the city of Arnolds Park intentionally tried to deflate a million-dollar real estate sale has decided to dismiss the case.

CSP LLC, a holding company owned by local businessman Neil Slater, filed a motion earlier this month to dismiss its claims against the city. Slater's company first filed its petition in September of 2020. A jury trial was most recently scheduled for February of 2023.
