‘Very high’ crop fire danger for northwest Iowa

 

There was almost no rainfall in Iowa this past week, and the risk of fires associated with harvest are elevated in the western part of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

There now are “very high” risks of cropland fires in areas of northwest Iowa, the service says.

State Auditor releases report on Dickinson County

The State Auditor's Office has completed its annual report on Dickinson County's financials. They didn't find any questionable expenditures, instances of non-compliance or weaknesses in the county's control over its major programs, but state auditors did have a few suggestions for county officials.

IGL Chamber marks another successful Oktoberfest

The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce had another successful University of Okoboji Oktoberfest last weekend. With nearly 600 registered bike riders and hundreds more attendees from near and far, the Iowa Great Lakes was filled with fall fun. Third-parties charging veterans for free military records

The Iowa County Recorders Association wants to make all veterans aware that recording or requesting military records is always free of charge for a veteran. In recent weeks it has been reported that a third-party company has been charging veterans to record these documents. Please remember to always contact the local county recorder for assistance recording or requesting military records.

Ernst learns about foster, adoptive care support during local visit

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst paid a visit to Okoboji Monday afternoon during her 99-county tour to learn how a local nonprofit is helping support area foster and adoptive families.

The senator stopped at Kaden's Kloset, which provides gently used clothing and other items to families free of charge, and met with Tina Vande Hoef, director of the nonprofit Kings and Queens Local, which helps operate the resource closet.

New name, same faces: Robinsons rename funeral home after becoming full owners

Some area residents have been perplexed by a sign reading "Robinson Funeral Home" which recently appeared outside the former Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. They've called up Korey at the funeral home to ask what has happened to the business. For some, that's when they learn Korey's last name — Robinson.
