No injuries were reported Saturday afternoon following a report of a burning car outside Fareway Meat and Grocery in Spirit Lake. Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly said crews were called away from a grass fire to get the flaming vehicle under control. Crews focused their efforts on the area around the car's engine. Daly said the owner indicated a popping noise had been heard before trouble started, and Daly said the flames may have ignited after a backfire of some kind. He went on to say firefighters coming from the day's grass fire call had to be sure they were properly equipped with breathing apparatuses to avoid potential fumes as they tackled the vehicle fire. Crews got things cooled down relatively quickly. Daly estimated firefighters were on scene for about 45 minutes.
