Community members joined local students at several area schools last week to honor local veterans ahead of Veterans Day. American Legion posts in Spirit Lake, Milford and Lake Park hosted programs in their respective communities.

Audiences were reminded of the origins of the annual holiday and heard directly from a few specific veterans, who shared their thoughts on the day, its meaning and the important role their fellow veterans have played throughout the years.
